Jenny McCarthy Show

Just this evening I was speaking with a close friend about parenting and some of the struggles that we as parents face today. We talked about difficulties with bullying, progress reports, behavioral outbursts, as well as how to approach other parents when difficulties occur between children.

Shortly into our conversation, my friend asked me if I had seen the latest news on Jenny McCarthy and her son's struggle with autism.

"No, I haven't," I replied.

While I might not have all the details down exactly, and I personally did not hear her talk, I truly believe the underlying message is what really counts in this case.

As it was explained to me, and from what I have read online, Jenny McCarthy's son has been diagnosed with autism. It all apparently came to light after her son suffered a few seizures and one that ultimately led to cardiac arrest. And this all happened while Jenny was on tour promoting her latest book at the time.

Known to be a trendsetter, the actress’s sartorial sense fell flat on Tuesday when she appeared in a micro mini paired with a fitted tee and a drastically different look — copper coloured hair in a fringed bang cut (those are in vogue by the way). With puffy eyes and a plump face, the actress also appeared slightly fuller than she normally is.

I never realized how many people in the entertainment field have multiple dogs, and they range all the way from elite purebred dogs to rescued pets. Drew Barrymore even rescued a couple of lab mix dogs, and even one of them saved her life by alerting her of a fire in their home.

Many of them take their dogs with them, wherever they go, even to work. So it's really no surprise that so many celebrities stick close to their Canine pals. Celebrities need companionship sometimes more than us regular folks. Many times, actors and actress's have to spend many hours alone in their trailers, waiting to do the next scene or take, and having their little buddy with them makes their day, go by, a lot quicker and happier. Another interesting aspect of celebrity pet ownership is they don't seem to mind the paparazzi taking pictures of them, with their dogs. Actually you can see them mugging for the camera. That's why there are so many pictures of celebrity's with their dogs on the internet. I also recently read on the internet, that Ben Afflek, always wanted a puppy when he was young, and never got one, and now he has five of them. I also read that Shania Twain had a custom made dog door installed on her tour bus to for her dog.

On the flip side we also have celebrities voicing their opinion on many dog and puppy related issues. One that comes to mind is this one. Do you remember Patti Page? Yes Patti Page from the 1950's, who recorded a #1 hit song called," How much is that doggy in the window". Well Patti has teamed up with the Humane Society, to redo her famous 1950's hit song, with new lyrics, after she became obsessed with how puppy mills were abusing puppies, and how they were forced to live in these filthy, tiny cages. So they got together and re-recorded the famous song and she has a video on YouTube called "Do you see that doggy in the shelter". Way to go, Patti.

The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat" (the groping paws of an overzealous fashion guru...). This age-old adage seemed particularly fitting at the 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards--a star-studded night of dazzling highs, devastating lows, and a vast middle ground of whatever. But we're not talking statuettes here; we're talking style. And if the Globes are any indication of what we can expect to see at next month's Oscars, most celebs will play it safe, sticking with timeless silhouettes and tried-and-true colors. Still, as the following ensembles prove, anything can and will happen on the red carpet.

Best in Show

Ladies in black stole the show, accounting for three of the evening's strongest ensembles. The perennially chic Reneé Zellweger was stunning in an asymmetrical, slit-to-there silk chiffon gown by Carolina Herrera. The coup de grace? A vintage Van Cleef & Arpels brooch fastened off-center (as fashionistas should heretofore demand) on one of the gown's back straps. Charlize Theron, another red-carpet favorite, looked lovely in not-so-basic black. Her flirty Dior frock--a short nude slip with black lace overlay--might've landed another wearer on Mr. Blackwell's, but Theron pulled it off with panache, dressing up the skimpy shift with a glittering Cartier bracelet. Rounding out the colorless trio was Natalie Portman in vintage Chanel: The strapless, ribbon-belted dress, worn without jewelry, looked as if it were made for the ingenue, who scores extra points for sporting the pixie--a hairstyle only the prettiest of stars can wear with aplomb.
